Nourish Notes: Easter Edition.
At the start of the week, I took my 5-year-old, Sebby on a little overnight hotel stay and I think it might have been one of my favourite ever times I’ve had with him.
I loved just being us, me and my little best friend. Chatting at dinner, jumping on the bed, cuddling up for a movie (we watched Outback on Netflix and both loved it) having a “midnight’’ feast with warm cookies (it was 8pm). Him falling asleep on me, then waking in the night just to check I was still there. I even managed to get a 96 sleep score on my Oura ring, which tells you everything you need to know about how well I slept. I think there’s something so deeply comforting about sleeping next to your child. Like you have all you need right there next to you, they are literally home.
There were a few moments, while Sebby was nestled up in the window seat of our hotel room colouring in his own little world just so happy and content, that I caught myself almost zooming outside of the moment. Like I was in it, but also SO aware of it at the same time.
I don’t think I used to do that very well, in fact I know I didn’t do it well. My mind would be a million miles an hour, always onto the next thing, trying to squeeze too much in because of working and parenting and ‘the juggle’ without the family village around us to support us. Somewhere along the way I actually think I forgot how to just ‘’be’’ in something while it was happening because I got so used to living in the tomorrow instead of the now.
The last year I’ve felt this massively shift, and the small moments feel so much bigger and more precious because of it.
Don’t get me wrong, I love us all being together nothing beats it- but having that one-on-one time with my little boy felt really special in a different way and I know It will be one of those forever memories we’ll look back on.
If you have young kids and haven’t done a 1:1 trip before, I really recommend it! It’s such a simple thing to do, but it’s so fun way to have quality time together. I can imagine this being a lovely thing to do if you have a few children - if it’s an option to take the older one away. We stayed at Treehouse Hotel in London and the room with its stunning views over the city felt like we were actually staying in a treehouse, its the perfect family friendly hotel the staff were amazing and couldn’t do enough for us and even gave Sebby a little welcome pack with colouring books and pencils which made the trip for him!
I saw Danielle Shugg share something that’s really stuck with me, she said “your children’s childhood is your motherhood. How you want to remember it, how you want it to feel... that’s what matters’’.
After our night away, we came home, repacked and headed to the Cotswolds- our second home as we refer to it because we escape there for family time so often. This trip felt exactly like what we all needed, a change of pace and a change of scenery, it ticked the boxes and some.
The Airbnb was one of the coolest we’ve stayed in to date, so chic, but still rustic homely and lived-in. (THIS is the one we booked incase you’re in need of staycation ideas).
I came home feeling inspired and before I even unpacked (very unlikely me I usually unpack and put a load of washing in before I’ve even taken my coat off!) I basically reorganised our kitchen and ordered some pots and things for the house from Zara Home- they have such gorge stuff right now. I love how a few small changes can make everything feel fresh and new again. Which feels very in tune with Springtime and I’m definitely blaming the change of seasons on my online home wear bill!
There really is something about this time of year though, that makes me want to refresh things and reset my space, my routine, the type of foods I’m eating (a big yes to seasonal eating) and how I’m taking care of myself. And, tbh after the long rather bleak Winter after experiencing two pregnancy losses, I’m welcoming this sense of renewal with open arms!!
Which is ideal timing, as I’m just about to host my two-week nutrition and wellness programme, The Spring Reset - which starts next Monday (13th) if you fancy joining us.
I run my reset programmes at the start of every new season because I truly believe that as the seasons shift, we need to reset and realign too.
It’s what nature is asking us to join in with- the changes in light, temperature, and everything around us, from the trees and flowers to the food growing from the ground. And really, when you boil it down, it’s actually all about simply working with our bodies and nature -its about aligning with the environment we’re in, the natural rhythms of the season, and everything that brings.
It’s something I love about living here in the UK. The very definite sense of seasons we have and how it dictates how we live, eat, socialise and even dress - it keeps life fresh and interesting on every level, so it makes sense to embrace it and move with it.
I’ve been running these seasonal resets for a year now, and I still find it quite incredible to see the impact they can have on the women who join.
At its core, it’s simple- It’s about coming back to the basics, the ones that really matter and move the needle the most when it comes to our health. The foundational pillars of hormonal health, and what it actually means to feel WELL in your body, your mind, and your spirit (you’d be surprised how many women do not relate to feeling “well”).
But more than anything, it’s the sense of community I love. There’s something so empowering and motivating about knowing we’re all doing it together, it brings a level of accountability that’s hard to create on your own (and definitely makes me show up better for myself too).
There are workshops (I’m hosting a hormone balance one this time), a meet-up and meditation, and (unexpectedly for me) my favourite part, the WhatsApp group. It’s like having a group of cheerleaders in your pocket at all times. So roll on next Monday I’m so ready for it!
Anyway, back to the Cotswolds - what was really so nice about our countryside escape (other than the dog walks in open fields, multiple pub lunches and farm shop visits) was that I actually got some proper rest and switched my busy brain off.
I also loved that James and I also had a cosy night in with picky bits we got from Daylesford - is there anything better than (fancy) picky bits?! just tastes like a fun time. I really felt like the cheese, biscuits and chocolate bunnies nourished me just as much as my chicken bone broth does, but just in a different way - soul feeding food!
Nourishment really is so much more than what’s on our plates and I think Easter time is a good time to remind ourselves of that. Nourishment is making memories with the people you love, it’s joy, it’s just having the thing you really want and enjoying every bite without giving it a second thought.
I hope you’ve all had a lovely bank holiday weekend- full of nourishment in all its forms- precious time with family and friends as well as the chocolate eggs you ate! Here’s to a happy nourished Springtime ahead.
Love, Jess X
P.S If you have signed-up to The Spring Reset I hope you enjoy reading through your handbook as it was released today, and I can’t wait to reset with you next Monday!
